Thought this was really intersting, and I actually really like the tread design:

Motor Trend Yoko MT Review

Glen, did you know this was happening? I'm assuming it's a replacement for what you've been running?

Yeah, Jeff sent me a link to them. I like the symmetrical look on the MT plus more than these G003. They look like every other tire now. If the tread depth goes from the current 17/32" to a 19/32" I'll give them a try but if they are still 17/32" then I'd rather get a set of Duratracs. I searched but apparently Yokohama hasn't published specific tire size or specs yet.

And you're right these are set to replace the tires I have which have been around since 1998.

Agreed that the tread design is quite a departure from what you've been running.

I guess I thought that it looked like a meld of the Toyo MT and the old GY MTR (one of my favorite original designs). I'm due for new tires in the next 6 months, so I've started some deeper research into options/sizes/pricing and ran across this. If they are 19/32 tread depth, with the right size/pricing, I might seriously consider these.

I agree Rick. When I first saw them I had to do a double take. Thought they were the Toyo MTs. I like the tread pattern a lot. It will be interesting to see what they're priced at in comparison.

No love for people running 16's. Glen you'll have to do some more trimming to fit those 315's. :hee hee hee:

I'd be curious to see what you guys think, if any of you run them. It's funny that Cooper went from a tire similar to this tread pattern to a pattern that more closely mimics the KM2s. Now Yokohama is going away from their old pattern to this one. The lugs seem deep but not too big... maybe they'll do decently in packed snow? On the other hand, I wonder if the lugs are supported enough to prevent tearing/chunking. Looks like there is "some" siping mixed in there, but I can't tell from the photos.

Rick: I think you should buy them and tell us what you think. You've got the most miles on the Duratracs (you convinced me to buy them and I'm on my 3rd set now!) so your opinion/comparison would be great.

I have to say, though, that the photos make me feel just a bit disappointed. To me, Yokohama is a very top tier tire manufacturer. My AD07s were a game changing street/race tire. I just expect to see something totally new and groundbreaking when they release a new tire. To me, this seems like another twist on a tread pattern that has been used for a long time. Then again, maybe that's the best pattern for a street/crawl tire...

I think you are right, they are actually quite similar to Cooper STT - remind me of what I had last on the Pathfinder. Definitely doesn't look like a "broke the mold" on the design (but I'm not a tire expert).

I've been looking in the realm of a 285/70/18 (34.1 x 11.5) or 285/75/18 (34.8 x 11.2), so the 295/70/18 (34.3 x 11.6) is definitely in the mix as far as a runnable size. Just have to wait on pricing and maybe some better manufacturer specs before I look much further into these.

Sad for Glen though, not cool to lose your go-to tire.

How will anyone know if I'd been on the trail already or what line I took? This is quite the bummer.
